What are we looking for?
Prior to interview, we look for clear evidence of a commitment to the teaching profession, including an enthusiasm for working with children, a willingness to learn and a reflective approach to personal development. We also expect applicants to demonstrate an understanding of professional expectations, such as safeguarding, workload, and the responsibilities associated with being a trainee teacher. An awareness of current educational issues—for example, curriculum changes, inclusion or behaviour approaches—is also important.
Although prior experience in a school is not required, many prospective students find that spending time in a classroom helps them gain valuable insight into the realities of teaching and strengthens their understanding of the role.
